An Oil Seller Swears to Keep the Marketplace Supplied
On October 19, AD 275, Aurelius Theodorus, an oil seller, gave a sworn undertaking to the strategos that he would provide fine oil in the Oxyrhynchus marketplace every day. Aurelius Sarapammon acted as his surety. The Greek document turns market supply into a formal civic obligation.
