    Two Villagers Promise Not to Steal or Shelter Thieves

    On October 25, AD 612, two men gave a written undertaking connected with the Apion estate. They promised not to steal tools, draft animals or other property and not to receive thieves. Each offence carried a penalty of twenty-four gold solidi. A scribe wrote for them because they were illiterate.
