A Couple Borrow 5,600 Drachmas Interest-Free
On October 21, 127 BC, Thoteus lent 5,600 drachmas to Totoes and his wife Takmeis for three months without interest. The Greek contract also set a penalty if the borrowers defaulted. The unusually large stated sum and clear repayment terms make this a vivid record of private credit in Ptolemaic Egypt.
