    A Woman Petitions After Her Son-in-Law Throws Her Out

    On October 15, AD 548, Christodora petitioned Flavius Melas after accusing her son-in-law of taking her possessions, throwing her out and beating her. She asked the official to summon him. The Greek petition preserves one woman’s attempt to use formal authority in a bitter household conflict.
