    A Tanner Reports a 2,600-Drachma Theft from His Home

    On September 22, 197 BC, Petosiris, a tanner, petitioned the financial official Dorotheus after accusing Dionysius of entering his home and taking clothing, pillows, wool, cups, tools and other property valued at 2,600 drachmas. Petosiris asked that the accused be summoned. The Greek papyrus preserves a vivid case of alleged theft, household property and access to officials in Ptolemaic Egypt.
