Two-Thirds of a House, a Courtyard and a Well Are Leased in Hermopolis
On September 14, AD 473, a Greek contract from Hermopolis recorded the lease of two-thirds of a house together with a courtyard and a well. The lease was indefinite and the surviving document preserves the rent plus subscriptions from witnesses and the notarial office. It gives a remarkably concrete view of property division, rental agreements and documentary practice in late-antique Egypt.
