Shipwrights and Supplies Move Across Roman Egypt on Leap Day
On February 29, AD 300, three Greek official letters from Aurelius Isidoros, procurator of the Lower Thebaid, were dated Phamenoth 4 in the archive of Apollinarios, strategos of the Panopolite nome. One ordered eight shipwrights sent to Ptolemais for work on a newly completed 2,000-artaba vessel. A fragmentary order concerned a dispatch to Keneh while another demanded that 800 artabas of lentils reach Alexandria within five days before seagoing ships were loaded.
